HTMA Safety Benchmarking
The graphs and statistics generated from this site are generated from the data supplied by our Member Companies.
The objective of the benchmarking website is to capture accurate data relating to the safety performance of the Highway Term Maintenance and Management industry. The site allows Member Companies to compare their safety performance against others within their sector and the industry average, and provide other stakeholders with accurate, credible information.
Three categories of data are collected:
- RIDDOR
- Near Miss
- Service Strikes
The reporting of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) to the appropriate enforcing authority is mandatory for employers and other responsible persons who have control over employees and work premises.
This includes:
- Accidents causing major injuries and fatalities (or non-major injuries where the injured party is incapacitated for more than three days
- Occupational diseases
- Dangerous occurrences, even where no injury results.
The capturing of near miss data will give both the industry and individual Members the opportunity to target resources at specific areas to reduce the likelihood of these near misses developing into actual incidents. We define a near miss as 'something that had the potential to cause an injury or damage to property or equipment'.
Service strikes place a significant burden of risk on our industry. The risk to operatives, as well as the cost of repair and loss of company credibility, has a major impact. Through capturing this data we can analyse the cost to the industry, identify trends in types of service strikes and look into alternative digging methods. Service strikes will include the damage to any service that results in the disruption of supply, or the damage of any service that results in the service needing repair. (e.g. gas pipes, water pipes, electrical cables)
